Best Things to do in Cala Mondrago on your holidays

Cala Mondrago is one of the most beautiful beaches in the East of Mallorca, located in the extreme southeast of the island. It stands out for its environment, nature, and for being a natural area of special interest. In fact, Cala Mondrago enjoys protection as a Natural Park of Mallorca and Spain. Around Cala Mondrago there are a few hotels, although it is a very quiet place, which has no resemblance with other tourist resorts situated nearby. From Cala Mondrago there are many things to do and places to visit, and a lot of organized excursions to different tourist attractions.

Spend a Day at the Playa Amarador Beach

The beach at Cala Mondrago is an ideal place to relax, swim, sunbathe and snorkel. Cala Mondrago is made up of two coves with fine sand and crystal waters, which are connected to each other and the natural park by a pretty path, both of which make a great beach spot to spend a day of your holidays. 

Playa de S'Amarador is one of Mondrago's beautiful coves located ten minutes walk from the ample car park. It is a great beach spot to set up for the day, with amazing views, rocky areas to explore, soft sand to relax on and amenities such as beach bar and life guard.

You can enjoy a boat trip on the east coast of the island from Cala Mondrago, seeing the wonderful landscape of this part of Mallorca. The surroundings of Cala Mondragó offer many things to see and do. The visit to the town of Santanyi is highly recommended: it is a beautiful town with charming streets to explore, shops, art galleries, and nice squares to stop for a drink. Every Saturday there is a busy market where you can do some of your shopping in Mallorca.

Other recommendations in the surroundings are Colonia de Sant Jordi where you can visit the Es Trenc saltworks or the Ses Salines lighthouse.

Just hop on a bus from Cala Mondrago and enjoy the half hour or so ride. Cala Figuera is a small coastal town formed from the opening of two torrents that form a port in the shape of a Y. There are some hotels, a beautiful beach and tourist facilities. 

Cala figuera is not a large place and nor does it have a great deal of tourist development. For this reason, on a popular holiday island, it is the ideal place to find peace and tranquility. The village has just 600 inhabitatants and makes a great place for a day out.

Visit the weekly market in Santanyí

If you are staying in Cala Mondrago, your closest weekly market is in Santanyí and takes place every Wednesday and Saturday. The market takes place in the centre of town and there are plenty of bars and cafes around where the local people stop for breakfast or brunch once they have all their shopping. You can find stalls selling local and seasonal produce as well as stalls aimed at tourists with gifts and souvenirs. Santanyí Market is also a great place to find local and artisanal products such as: Artisanal food of Mallorca like cheese, oil, wine, sobrassada, olives; crafts such as ceramics, wooden articles, decoration; leather and footwear; and unusual gifts.

Go to Cala Dor

Cala Dor is a very popular and pretty tourist resort and is worth a visit from Cala Mondrago. It is about 15 minutes by car. Cala Dor is a sun, sea and sand beach destination and therefore one of the most important highlights will be to enjoy some of its beaches. On this stretch of five kilometres of coastline you will find many coves, such as Cala Sa Nau, Cala Mitjana (small and difficult to access), Cala Serena, Cala Gran or Cala Esmeralda. Take a stroll around Cala Dor and visit the marina, whose site was originally an old boat shelter and where the marina was built in 1970, which has numerous nautical services, a shopping area and numerous restaurants.
