Canyamel, tucked away on the East Coast of Mallorca, is a small secluded resort with very few hotels and a beautiful extensive sandy and rocky beach. Canyamel is a very peaceful place on a busy island, but despite this there are things to do and places to visit. The name Canyamel comes from the words used for sugar cane, which was cultivated here in the 18th century.
For nature-lovers, there is a wide offering of hiking and cycling trails of all levels from and around Canyamel. All these routes form part of a project by the local Capdepera Town Council to promote the area in terms of nature and the outdoors, to offer more for residents and tourists on holiday in Canyamel. Most nature-lovers like to visit the Serra de Tramuntana during their holidays in Mallorca, and while this magnificent mountain area is quite far from Canyamel, there is a tour from there to the Soller and La Calobra combining bus, boat, tram and train for those who wish to spend a day in Mallorca's UNESCO World Heritage landscape.
If what you wish to do is to relax and enjoy a nice beach, then Canyamel is the perfect place to soak up the sun and relax. The Canyamel beach is a long white sandy beach with all the facilities such as sunbeds, bars, water sports, snorkelling...
From Canyamel you can also explore the coastline, and you will find some hidden coves. For example you can walk to Cala Agulla beach, or you can do a trekking tour in the Nature Llevant area combining it with a stop at a cove such as Cala Matzoc or Cala Torta. From Canyamel, if we are looking for other small beaches to swim and relax, just along the coastline we find the pretty coves of Cala de Auberdans and Cala Rotja, both good for snorkelling.
There are no boat trips departing from Canyamel, and the nearest place to get on a boat or catamaran excursion is the resort of Cala Ratjada. Many tours we have listed on the website include pick up from the hotels in Canyamel to take you there and back.
There are three water parks in Mallorca, but none is close to Canyamel, the nearest being the Hidropark in Alcudia. If you want to explore the area around Canyamel, there are many interesting places to visit. Well worth a look is the nearby cave at Arta which has attracted many famous visitors over the years. Canyamel is within the municipality of the town of Capdepera which is characterised by its ancient castle. Also close by is the authentic and historic town of Arta, the sleepy town of Son Servera, the pretty port of Cala Ratjada and the lively resort of Cala Millor.
The neighbouring resort of Cala Ratjada is very popular for nightlife, mostly with German holiday-makers, and it offers a wide choice of bars, discos and chill-out bars.
Close to Canyamel we find the Canyamel Golf Course where visitors can book in advance or just turn up and book a few rounds of golf at the 18-hole course.
