What to do in Porto Petro

Porto Petro is a small port, very close to Cala d'Or and Cala Mondragó, in the east of Mallorca. It belongs to the municipality of Santanyi, and it has just 500 inhabitants, a number which during the summer increases with the presence of tourists who stay at hotels in the area.

For lovers of the sea, Porto Petro has a small white sand beach with sunbeds and umbrella services, beach bars and water sports. The beach is not easy to find, and its access is next to the hotel Blau Porto Petro. From the beach there is a small jetty, from where you can take boat trips along the coast of Porto Petro, to different destinations such as Cala Figuera, Cala Dor, Porto Colom ...

Despite being such a small place, Porto Petro offers many things to do and places to visit, and different organized excursions to different tourist attractions.

In Porto Petro we find a fishing port that has a Private Yacht Club, which has a special charm, like all these ports with small houses and traditional fishing heritage. It is highly recommended to go there, to take a walk, enjoy watching the boats and yachts, and end up eating something in some of the restaurants in the harbour area, that offer fresh fish of the day.

Enjoy a diving trip

This location on the east coast is ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling, thanks to its multitude of small coves and rocky coastline. Learning to dive is one of the best things to do on your holiday in Mallorca and this is the perfect spot. Take a half day Discover Scuba excursion to allow you to learn about diving and also have your own opportunity to do so in the sea with qualified professionals. If you prefer snorkelling, there is a great snorkelling tour in the area that takes you out with the boat to deeper waters where you will get lost in the magical underwater world.

Go on a boat trip to explore the coast

You can enjoy a boat trip on the east coast of the island from various harbours in the area, seeing the wonderful landscape of this part of Mallorca. A great sailing trip in the area takes you to the best spots along this part of the coast, allowing you to enjoy beautiful coves from a different perspective as well as discovering other little-known beauty spots on the same coast. The sailling tours take place on a modern sailboat and include captain and crew, food and drinks and equipment to use such as snorkel equipment, kayak or stand-up paddle.

Another interesting option is to drive to Colonia de San Jordi to enjoy the popular boat trip to the National Park of Cabrera, visiting the island, its castle, enjoying a swim in its waters and the Blue Cave.

Book an excursion to explore the island

The choice of tourist attractions is not very wide in Porto Petro itself, so it will be necessary to do an organized excursion to visit some of the most popular places of Mallorca, such as water parks, the Caves of Drach, Formentor ... In the upper part of the web page you will find all the activities with the respective information and the different types of excursions.

Take the public bus to Cala Dor

Cala Dor is a very popular and pretty tourist resort and is worth a visit from Porto Petro. The bus ride is pleasant and short. Cala Dor is a sun, sea and sand beach destination and therefore one of the most important highlights will be to enjoy some of its beaches. On this stretch of five kilometres of coastline you will find many coves, such as Cala Sa Nau, Cala Mitjana (small and difficult to access), Cala Serena, Cala Gran or Cala Esmeralda. Take a stroll around Cala Dor and visit the marina, whose site was originally an old boat shelter and where the marina was built in 1970, which has numerous nautical services, a shopping area and numerous restaurants.

Parc Natural Mondragó: Beaches and Walks

The beach at Cala Mondrago is an ideal place to relax, swim, sunbathe and snorkel. Cala Mondrago is made up of two coves with fine sand and crystal waters, which are connected to each other and the natural park by a pretty path, both of which make a great beach spot to spend a day of your holidays.

Walkers will enjoy the Natural Park of Cala Mondragó, which offers numerous treks along the coast, showing the wilderness of this area of the island. This is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Mallorca and the visitor centre offers lots of information about flora, fauna and in particular about the migratory birds that visit the park annually. There are four self-guided trails in Mondrago and at the National Park information center, they offer more information about them. All the trails are perfectly marked, and are easy to follow. This constitutes a great day out in Mallorca.
