We recommend that you take with you what you need to spend the day. Have in mind that once there you will not be able to buy anything. But it is precisely that, what makes it unique and a place worth visiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nor will you find the possibility of doing water sports, as is the case on many beaches in Mallorca. So forget about jet skiing, parasail and banana boat. But let us tell you what you <em>can <\/em>do in Cala Varques, apart from relaxing and sunbathing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"enjoy-its-crystal-clear-waters-snorkelling\"><strong>Snorkel in its crystal clear waters <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click-mallorca.com\/blog\/en\/what-to-do-mallorca\/water-activities\/snorkel-in-mallorca-the-best-places-and-beaches\/\">Snorkelling <\/a>in its transparent and crystalline waters is one of the best suggestions of things to do in Cala Varques. Surrounded by cliffs and rocks, you will find many fish and marine fauna both in the sand area and on the rocks. So do not forget to take your snorkelling equipment with you to enjoy the beach to the fullest. The water remains shallow for a long time, so it is a very pleasant experience to snorkel without worrying about drifting too far out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"explore-the-caves-near-cala-varques\"><strong>Explore the Caves near Cala Varques<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The caves of Cala Varques<\/strong> are another option to take advantage of the visit to this cove, both the terrestrial caves and the marine ones. Often lovers of speleology and diving visit these caves and galleries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the land caves we find the &#8220;Cuevas del Pirata&#8221; or the &#8220;Cueva del Pont&#8221;. In them we find the typical stalactites and stalagmites of sea caves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the surrounding sea caves, the most spectacular is the <strong>Cova des Coloms<\/strong>, which is accessed by sea or by abseiling about 20 metres. This activity became quite popular years ago in Cala Varques, but before you even think about trying it, let us tell you that there have been people who had to be evacuated when they suffered serious spinal injuries with the possibility of paralysis from jumping from these rocks into the water. Remember what we said about the water being shallow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Psicobloc <\/strong>is a type of climbing without ropes, using just the hands and feet to grip, and it is always is done on the cliffs next to the sea, because when the climber gets tired or stuck, they just let go and free-fall into the water. The psicobloc phenomenon was born in Mallorca, and the water is used to cushion the fall. Due to accidents that have occurred in the past to people without experience, this activity has been prohibited in the area. It is located between Cala Falco and Calo Blanc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all this area of the coast there are many caves and, in fact, one of them was here. Due to an internal landslide in the central part, the roof fell, leaving only the opening, which is this rock bridge that you can see in the photo. As we have said, it is a spectacular site, very close to Cala Varques and worth visiting. The bridge is safe, wide and ideal for taking photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading parrafo-azul\" id=\"how-to-get-to-cala-varques\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-to-get-to-cala-varques\"><\/span>How to get to Cala Varques<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cala Varques is one of Mallorca&#8217;s virgin coves, as we have already mentioned. Romantically this means that it is unspoilt, untouched and completely natural. Logistically it means it is difficult to get to; there is no parking and there is an hour&#8217;s walk involved. But you still want to go, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The way to get to Cala Varques is the route from Cala Rom\u00e1ntica<\/strong>, on a pretty trek of approximately one hour. Access from the Porto Cristo-Calas de Mallorca road is not possible because you cannot park on the road and you must go through private property, which does not allow access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Estany den Mas Beach, on the right hand side there is a small path that goes up that side, and then goes almost parallel to the coast. Covered sports shoes are necessary, since you will have to walk along a rocky track.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We also recommend that you bring plenty of drinking water as there is no bar or beach kiosk at Cala Varques. If you have read in other articles that there is a beach bar, beware that these articles are old and not updated. In 2020, the Cala Varques beach bar was demolished.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t go too loaded. The weight could make it difficult for you to get to the beach! Travel light.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the path ends, you arrive at Cala Varques, and you will be on the beach with turquoise, clear and calm waters where you can relax and spend a day of total disconnection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They say that sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. From Porto Cristo we offer an excursion that takes you through this area of the coast of Mallorca, and you will be able to see virgin coves that are difficult to access, such as Cala Varques or Cala Virgili, among others. It is a watchtower built in the 16th century to protect the island from enemy attacks. From this vantage point you will have spectacular views of the bay, the lighthouse and the entire east coast of Mallorca.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Manacor you can visit the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click-mallorca.com\/en\/excursions\/rafa-nadal-museum\/\">Rafa Nadal Xperience museum<\/a><\/strong>. Being a virgin cove, there are no places to stay at Cala Varques itself, but there are great places to stay close by. There are our favourite resorts in the area:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Porto Cristo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Porto Cristo is an ideal place to stay for visiting Cala Varques and other beaches in the area. A mix between local town and tourist resort, it has all the bars, restaurants and shops that any visitor could require, as well as a quaint, old-world charm that makes you realise you are staying in, what is at heart, a fishing village. It has a very nice beach of its own too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of hotels to choose from in Porto Cristo, which you can easily find on Booking.com. Why not try the Felip Hotel, one of the oldest and most historic hotels on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cala Mandia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A stone&#8217;s throw from Porto Cristo, Cala Mandia is a small tourist resort with a couple of stunning beaches and absolutely breathtaking coastal views from all angles. It is the place where tour coaches visiting the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click-mallorca.com\/en\/excursions\/caves-drach-half-day-excursion\/\">Caves of Drach<\/a> stop to show their passengers the amazing views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several hotels in Cala Mandia and there are plenty of bars and restaurants for people staying there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Calas de Mallorca<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Porto Cristo and Cala Mandia are north from Cala Varques, Calas de Mallorca is further south down the coast.
