What to do in Cala Figuera

Cala Figuera is located on the east coast of the island of Mallorca. It is a small coastal town formed from the opening of two torrents that form a port in the shape of a Y. Cala Figuera has some hotels, a beautiful beach and tourist facilities. From Cala Figuera there are many things to do and places to visit, and many organized excursions to different tourist attractions.

Cala figuera is not a large place and nor does it have a great deal of tourist development. For this reason, on a popular holiday island, it is the ideal place to find peace and tranquility. The village has just 600 inhabitatants and, as with all the small resorts of Mallorca, this has its pros and cons.

Explore the Harbour / Puerto Cala Figuera

Our first recommendation is to take a stroll through the village, to see its small fishing harbour, old fishermen's cottages and the typical Mallorcan "llauts" (wooden fishing boats) to discover the true charm of this Mediterranean spot. The harbour area exudes genuine charm, as this is a real fishing village. You'll see the fishermen’s nets hanging up in the sun or strewn over the stone walls. You can discover the true flavour of the Mediterranean, as the day's catch is served up at the harbour restaurants. It's doesn't get fresher than this.

Hiking from Cala Figuera to the Torre d'en Beu

For lovers of nature and hiking, there are some interesting routes near the coast in the area of Cala Figuera, to explore its coastline and discover small coves. A great route is from Cala Figuera to the Torre d'en Beu. The hike is just over 4km each way and takes around an hour each way. The "torre" is a lighthouse and there are rocks to explore and stone benches - ideal for a picnic. The walk itself is very pictuesque, along the coastline, with great views of the rugged beaches of the area.

In the nearby Mondrago Natural Park there are also four walking trails combining landscape, nature and coast.

Do a boat trip with RedStarTours

The best option to enjoy the sea in Cala Figuera is to take a boat trip that allows you to navigate the coast, making stops to visit coves where you can snorkel and see the island. The main company to operate boat trips in this area is RedStarTours, who have a small selection of boat trips available. You will be able to discover hidden coves and pristine beaches. You can take a trip to see the rock formation of Es Pontàs, Cala Llombards or the famous Calo de Moro beach and the distant, unspoiled and inaccessible Cala Marmols. Tours take place by inflatable boat in small groups of a maximum of 11 people.

Those with a car can drive to Colonia de Sant Jordi where our boat trip to Cabrera Island National Park departs from. This is one of the most popular excursions that we offer so be sure to buy your tickets online in advance.

Book an Excursion

From Cala Figuera there are various organised excursions that will take you to the top attractions on the island. A must in Majorca, is to visit the city of Palma, the capital of the island, where to take a walk through its old town, its streets or visit the Cathedral. Other popular excursions from the resort of Cala Figuera are the excursions to Soller and La Calobra, the Caves of Drach tour or the tour to Formentor Peninsula in the north of Mallorca. All of them include the coach pick-up service in Cala Figuera, guide and the respective tickets. For families with children, visiting Marineland or Katmandu Park, Palma Aquarium or one of the water parks is a great option since from Cala Figuera there are tours that include transportation and entrance ticket.  If you want to see the Tramuntana mountain area, there is an interesting option to visit it from Cala Figuera: the excursion to Soller and La Calobra, combining a trip by train, boat, tram and coach.

Go to the Beaches of Cala Llombards or Calo des Moro

A short distance from Cala Figuera we find plenty of Mallorca's famous coves to explore and discover to spend a day swimming or snorkelling or just relaxing on the beach. Among the most beautiful in the area are Cala Llombards and Calo des Moro. The latter has become so famous and popular that the local residents have taken to putting up signs saying that the road is private! it is an incredibly beautiful beach situated deep inside a bay with sheer cliffs. The 40 metres of beach is covered with fine-grained and bright sand. The water is clear with beautiful turquoise shades, such as the patches you see from the aeroplane as you fly over the island. Perfect for a swim between the high cliffs. Cala Llombards is surrounded by high cliffs and pine trees, providing a spectacular view from the beach. The beach is only 55 metres long, but up to 150 metres wide. It is a sandy beach of fine powdery grain and the water is completely clear offering the perfect snorkelling conditions. It is possible to rent sun loungers and parasols at the beach and there are showers and facilities.

Visit the Mondrago Nature Area

Cala Mondrago has two amazing coves with wonderful beaches to visit. There are few hotels in the area so in summer, most visitors are day-trippers.

Walkers will enjoy the Natural Park of Cala Mondragó, which offers numerous treks along the coast, showing the wilderness of this area of the island. There are four self-guided trails in Mondrago and at the National Park information centre they offer more information about them. All the trails are perfectly marked, and are easy to follow. This constitutes a great day out in Mallorca.

Eat Fresh Fish at one of the Port Restaurants

The fishermen catch the fish and sell it to the restaurants. The restaurants serve it in the evening. It's that simple and it's that fresh. So the best place to eat fish in Cala Figuera is at one of the restaurants in the harbour. The exciting thing is that you will eat what has been caught that day, not knowing until the same evening what will be on offer. Being a local fishing village, the restaurants along the seafront are very charming and cosy, giving a feeling of stepping back in time rather than attempting to be overly modern. For authentic daily fish dishes, try Restaurante L'Arcada, Bon Bar or La Petit Iglesia. The fresh fish is far from limited to these restaurants so be sure to explore the harbour for yourself.
