What to do in Calas de Mallorca

Calas de Mallorca is located on the east coast of the island of Mallorca, and is a small tourist center near the sea, which as its name suggests, has a lot of small coves in the vicinity. Some popular names are Cala Antena, Cala Domingos, Cala Murada...  From Calas de Mallorca there are many things to do and places to visit, and endless organized excursions to different tourist attractions in Mallorca.

Hotels in Calas de Mallorca

Calas de Mallorca has a large number of hotels, despite not being a very big resort. The hotels are normally located close to the different small coves you find in the resort. One of the most popular hotels in Calas de Mallorca is Sol Melia Complex, the Sol Calas de Mallorca. Sol Melia is one of the top hotel chains in the world, and it was created in Mallorca.

Other interesting hotels in Calas de Mallorca are the Samoa, the hotel America, hotel Canarios Park or hotel Calas Park.

Beaches in Calas de Mallorca: Cala Domingos and Cala Antena

In the east area of Mallorca, we find some of the best beaches of the island. Calas de Mallorca although it is a small resort, it has plenty of beaches. The beaches are very small, compared to the big beaches in the other areas of Mallorca such as Alcudia, Palma or Cala Millor. There are some lovely sandy beaches in a beautiful environment, and with all the facilities one needs.

Two of the "Calas" de Mallorca are Cala Domingos and Cala Antena. Cala Domingos is almost 5km from the centre of Calas de Mallorca. It boasts fine white sand and especially clean clear waters. You may wish to plant your umbrella in its 150 metre-long and wide sand and enjoy a marvellous landscape with open sea. It gets very busy during summer but there is ample parking. It is one of the beaches in Mallorca where fishing is allowed. One of the three natural beaches making up Calas de Mallorca is Cala Antena. Its visitors may dip their feet into the fine white sand and refresh themselves in the peaceful and crystal-clear waters. Among its main noticeable traits is its narrower shape, just 85 metres length yet 25 metres wide, surrounded by low foothill-cliffs.

Enjoy on of the Boat trips from Calas de Mallorca

A boat trip is a good option, since from the jetty on the beach at Calas de Mallorca there is a boat service with underwater vision that takes you to different places on the east coast of Mallorca, such as Porto Cristo, Cala Millor or even Cala Ratjada. From the nearby resorts there is a greater range of boat trips, from speed boats to sailing boat excursions, and all have a pick-up service at the Calas de Mallorca hotels.

Spend a day at the waterpark

In Calas de Mallorca we do not have any water park and those who want to enjoy slides, wave pool and water attractions, must travel by bus or excursion to one of the few Mallorca water parks, the nearest being the Aqualand Arenal, in the south of Mallorca. On this page you can find a transport+entrance ticket package to the water park with departure from Calas de Mallorca.

Book an Excursion by coach and with a guide

Also from Calas de Mallorca there is a wide range of excursions organized to different places on the island with pick-up from hotels. To give some examples, we have the excursion to the famous Sierra de Tramuntana combining train, boat, tram and bus. The excursion to Palma, the capital of the island. Or the excursion to Santanyi and the beach of Es Trenc.

Things to do with children in Calas de Mallorca

For families with children, there are things to do in Calas de Mallorca, but in the surroundings there is a much wider choice. In the nearby town of Porto Cristo, we find the famous Caves of Drach, a must in Majorca. From there, we can go to Manacor, to visit the Xperience Museum of the famous tennis player Rafa Nadal. And the options in organized excursions for families are many, such as Marineland, Palma Aquarium or Katmandu Park, all including pick up from Calas de Mallorca when this option is selected on the web.

Enjoy the Nightlife in Calas de Mallorca

Calas de Mallorca is not a proper nightlife area resort. It has a few bars, some with music, but no nightclubs. It's a purpose-built resort with most (if not all) the hotels being all inclusive, therefore the town has been strangled of customers. You will find a few bars with live music and a lot showing sport but overall its fairly quiet.

A recommended place in many websites is Tiffany’s Night Club that has a fantastic night-time atmosphere. During the day and evening, this bar serves a range of light bites and drinks, and at night, turns into a pumping club with some amazing music.

Spend a day playing golf for that real special holiday experience

Golfers will find the Vall D'or Golf Club just outside Porto Colom. For those who would like to explore the municipality of Manacor, there is a published 14-route itinerary that the tourist information office in this area has released and it is fun to discover some of these routes.

Take a walk to discover hidden coves: Cala Magraner and Cala Pilota

Those who like walking will find that near Calas de Mallorca there are numerous virgin coves to visit, many without urbanizations, and without services, but which are well worth it for the crystal clear waters and tranquility. Among some outstanding, we can mention Cala Magraner and Cala Pilota.

Cala Magraner is a spectacular cove and is a real paradise. It is well known among climbers, since on the walls of its cliffs there are different climbing and psychobloc routes.

Cala Magraner shares characteristics with Cala Virgili, Cala Bota and Cala Pilota: crystal clear waters (when there is no rough sea) with shades of green and turquoise, pebble beach, presence of posidonia on the beach (which is never bad for lying on sunbathing), ideal for swimming and snorkelling, tranquility and few people. Cala Pilota is a small virgin cove, and it is very close to Cala Magraner. It is the perfect place to relax and find peace and quiet, even in the middle of the busiest summer.

There is also a great coastal walk between Calas de Mallorca and Estany de Mas (near Porto Cristo).

Take the bus to visit the Caves of Drach

From Calas de Mallorca you can actually take the public bus to the Caves of Drach. Unfortunately you still can't buy your ticket in advance so you are going to queue in the summer months, but it is worth it. The Caves of Drach are one of the most visited attraction on Mallorca and one of the most famous landmarks. You can combine your visit with half a day in Porto Cristo.

Visit the nearby resort of Cala Dor

Cala Dor is a very popular and pretty tourist resort and is worth a visit from Calas de Mallorca. Cala Dor is a sun, sea and sand beach destination and therefore one of the most important highlights will be to enjoy some of its beaches. On this stretch of five kilometres of coastline you will find many coves, such as Cala Sa Nau, Cala Mitjana (small and difficult to access), Cala Serena, Cala Gran or Cala Esmeralda. Take a stroll around Cala Dor and visit the marina, whose site was originally an old boat shelter and where the marina was built in 1970, which has numerous nautical services, a shopping area and numerous restaurants.

Visit the Prehistoric settlement of Hospitalet Vell

If you like history, you are in for a treat in Mallorca. The settlement at s’Hospitalet Vell is located in the southern part of the Manacor municipality, and is not far from Calas de Mallorca. The settlement is easy to reach, and entrance is free. Information is available in various languages. In fact this is one of Mallorca’s most important prehistoric settlements and includes Bronze and Iron Age. In one visit naviforms and talayots can be seen.
