What to do in Font de Sa Cala

Font de sa Cala, found on the North East Coast of Mallorca, is a small, ideal place to spend a holiday, located very close to the tourist nucleus of Cala Ratjada. Here we find a handful of tourist accommodation like hotels and villas. Font de sa Cala belongs to the municipality of Arta, home to around 8,000 inhabitants, an area with plenty to do and see for people on holiday here. There is also a wide range of excursions and tours from Font de sa Cala itself to visit other parts of the island.

The name Font de sa Cala refers to two fresh water springs (fonts) in the area: one above ground and one underground, which make the sea water colder than other areas of Mallorca and also less salty.

Enjoy the beach

Being an island, probably one of your priorities will be to enjoy the sea and the beach. For sea lovers, Font de sa Cala offers a beautiful cove with fine sand and clear waters with a rocky area ideal for snorkelling. The Font de sa Cala beach is 100m wide and offers tourist facilities such as sunbeds and umbrellas, pedalos, bar, etc.

From the beach at Font de sa Cala the glass bottom boat departs, taking passengers around the east coast of Mallorca. If this is not enough there are more boat trips departing from Cala Ratjada including different boat and catamaran excursions to visit different beaches, coves and the natural park of Llevant. The dolphin watching catamaran tour also departs from Cala Ratjada.

Sometimes a good idea is to rent a bike and explore the surroundings so you can find some hidden gems. Some interesting places are Cala Mesquida, Cala Torta or Cala Agulla.

There is a wide offering of hiking trails around the area and one great route from Font de sa Cala is a gentle 5km trek to the interior village of Capdepera. Another possibility is to walk from Font de sa Cala to Cala Ratjada following the coastline and ending up at the Cala Ratjada lighthouse. There are other longer hikes from Font de sa Cala to Cala Mesquida or the Llevant Natural Park.

Visit villages

From Font de sa Cala there are many places to visit. Two of the most interesting villages are Arta and Capdepera, both worth a visit. Arta has a very popular weekly market on Tuesday, and Capdepera holds its market on a Wednesday. It is nice to combine market day with a stroll through the old quarter of each village and Capdepera has a castle that is worth a visit and Arta has the Sanctuary of San Salvador where there are magnificent views of the town and the surrounding area.

Do a bus tour

We also offer lots of excursions from Font de sa Cala to the main tourist attractions and the best sights of the island, including the Caves of Drach, Formentor, Valldemosa or Palma, amongs others. Two of the most popular tours from Font de sa Cala are the tour to the Caves of Drach and the trip to Soller and Calobra. In the last years, there has been a high demand for the trip to Formentor as it combines a boat trip, cabrio bus and the visit to Alcudia market. All trips are excellent value for money and they include pick up from hotels in Font de sa Cala.

Theme Parks

Apart from tours to explore Mallorca's highlights, we also have lots of other suggestions. There is something to do from Font de Sa Cala no matter what the weather is like. For cloudy days we have trips to the Aquarium or to Marineland for example, and for sunny days we have tours to the water parks (Aqualand Arenal or Western Water Park). Unfortunately Font de sa Cala does not have its own water park but there are coaches running daily to the two big Mallorca water parks.
