Shore Excursion to Palma City

If you want to spend your day in the city of Palma de Mallorca itself then you can take a shore excursion or you can make your own way to the city and move around at your own leisure. Below we outline way to get from your cruise ship to the city centre, and a few options for things to do in Palma de Mallorca.

But if you prefer to take a tour of the city then you can take a shore excursion with transport from your cruise liner or your can make your own way into Palma and join a guided walk. If you decide to take a walking tour of Palma, you have the option to take a shared guided walk or book a guide just for your family or group. Your guide will take you around the old town of Palma, showing you the famous courtyards and emblematic buildings of the old town, such as the Town Hall building and square and the city's impressive churches.

No walking tour of Palma is complete without a visit to Palma Cathedral, which is the most visual building of Palma from both land and sea. Your tour guide will take you inside the cathedral, where you will marvel at the history of the cathedral and of Palma and you will be awestruck by the variety of architectual styles. You may also like to visit the Almudaina Palace and the Arab Baths. Please note, if you decide to make your own way into Palma and visit the city by yourself, you could spend a lot of your precious time waiting in line at Palma Cathedral or the Almudaina Palace, as the queuing time is quite outrageous in summer (on an organised tour, your entry is pre-booked and you do not have to queue).

How to get to Palma City Centre from the Cruise Terminal:

Although cruise ships in Palma de Mallorca dock at about 6 to 8 kilometres from the city centre, it’s quite easy and fast to get around.

  • By shuttle bus: most cruise companies run a shuttle bus from the cruise terminal to very near the Cathedral.

  • By public bus: A good alternative is by public bus, which stops in front of the cruise terminal at estacion maritime 2 and escuela nautical (for those coming on the big cruises).

  • By the hop on, hop off bus: The hop on, hop off bus is a great way to see the city of Palma at your own pace. You can reach the places that are most important to you and enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city at the same time. By walking: If you have time and like to walk, you can enjoy the splendid view over the bay and the marina as you stroll along the seafront checking out the impressive yachts and small fishing boats.

  • By taxi

Getting back to your cruise ship

We would like to advise you to get back to your cruise ship in the port of Palma well before the departure time. Please make sure you check well in advance at what time your cruise ship will depart from the port, and then double check this on the day of your excursion in case there have been any changes.

When you book your shore excursion or activity with us, please make sure that you also advise us of the departure time of your cruise ship so that we can take into account the length of the tour and the traffic patterns. Remember: the best shore excursion does not end with a mad dash back to the port of Palma with the worry of not arriving before the ship sets sail!
