How to get to Sa Calobra?

If you are coming on holiday to Mallorca, here we will give you some options on how to get to Sa Calobra, one of the must-see places on the island. In this post, our team of local experts in excursions in Mallorca will tell you about the different options you have to go to Sa Calobra, so you can choose the option that best suits your needs. As we have previously mentioned, the best way to get to Sa Calobra is by boat or on an organised excursion. However we will go into a bit more detail below.

Sa Calobra Mallorca

Sa Calobra is located in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, which is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and where you´ll also find other spectacular places such as Valldemossa, Soller or Formentor. It is one of the essential places to visit in Mallorca, and there is no travel guide or blog on the internet that does not recommend visiting it. In fact, we recommend you read our article about Sa Calobra to find out more.

Go to Sa Calobra by car

If you have decided to rent a car during your holiday in Mallorca, your visit to Sa Calobra will be made slightly easier. Simply enter “Sa Calobra” as your destination in the car’s navigation system, and you will get the suggested route. Regardless of your point of departure, the route to the road to Sa Calobra can take you through 3 places:

  • Route from Pollensa passing the monastery of Lluc. It takes 1 hour and 20 minutes, for a distance of 42 kilometres.
  • Route from Soller passing the Gorg Blau and Cuber reservoirs. It takes 1 hour 15 minutes and covers 38 kilometres.
  • Route from Inca. A distance of 37 kilometres is covered in an hour and 15 minutes.

All of them are beautiful routes. Bear in mind that they are mountain roads, and that means curves, driving slowly and enjoying the scenery! For this reason, even if the distance to be covered is only a few kilometres, it takes time to drive there. The best part is the Sa Calobra road from the Els Arcs aqueduct to Sa Calobra. These 9 kilometres are one of the best roads on the island.

Once you arrive in Sa Calobra you will find a public parking where you can park your car, although it is not cheap. The price of the parking in Sa Calobra is €3 per hour, and €15 for the whole day. The other issue is that it is a small car park, that doesn´t have many spaces, so depending on the time of year it can already be full by the time people get there.

Reaching Sa Calobra by public transport

Considering the popularity of Sa Calobra, one might think that it would be easy to reach by public transport and that there would be numerous bus connections. This couldn´t be further from the truth!

We can only imagine it´s due to its isolated location in the middle of nowhere, the difficulty of the road for buses, the distance, the unevenness… which in turn means it isn´t a very “productive” route for the buses, and for this reason the route is no longer operational, until further notice.

Reach Sa Calobra by bus

If you don’t have your own car, you can only get to Sa Calobra by boat from Port de Soller.

Arriving by boat to Sa Calobra

This is undoubtedly one of the best ways to get to Sa Calobra. It is a boat trip from Puerto de Soller to Sa Calobra, with a duration of about 50-60 minutes. The trip runs along the coastline of the Sierra de Tramuntana, where you will be able to enjoy fabulous views and a very unique landscape.

As soon as you leave the port you will be able to see the luxurious Jumeirah hotel or the defensive tower Sa Picada. Further on you will see entrances to various sea caves and the spectacular high karst rock walls. Before reaching Sa Calobra, you will see the beautiful and isolated Cala Tuent and Puig Major, the highest mountain in Mallorca.

Boat to Sa Calobra

But the most spectacular views are undoubtedly what you see as you arrive at Sa Calobra. You can see from the sea the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis or what is classed as the small village of Sa Calobra.

Excursion to Sa Calobra

If you ask us, this is the best option, and in fact it is one of the most popular excursions in Mallorca! On this excursion you will not only visit Sa Calobra, you will also be able to enjoy:

  1. Touring the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range by bus
  2. Avoid driving along the Sa Calobra road.
  3. A stop at the Lluc monastery
  4. The boat trip from Soller – Sa Calobra
  5. Go on the famous Soller Train and Tramway

All this in an organised fashion, with transport from a nearby location to your hotel and with a local guide who accompanies you for your peace of mind, and tells you many interesting facts about what you see! As you can imagine, seeing a stone wall is not the same as knowing that in fact that stone wall is the only thing that remains of an old project for a funicular railway that was going to go to the top of the highest mountain in Mallorca!

A few months ago we read an opinion on the internet, which explained it very well “they take you, you visit the places, you don’t queue, they organise it for you and they take you back. It’s more expensive than going by public bus, but you save a lot of time, and in the end it’s cheaper.”

Visiting Sa Calobra, one of the most spectacular coves in Mallorca, is an unforgettable experience. If you arrive by car, it is important to know that Sa Calobra has a specific car park for visitors, as access and space in the area is limited due to its natural surroundings.

The main car park is located right at the top of the tourist area, just a few minutes’ walk from the cove and the access points to the famous Torrent de Pareis.

  • Capacity: The car park has a reasonable capacity, being able to accommodate approximately 200 vehicles, although during the summer months it can fill up quickly.
  • Price: Parking in Sa Calobra costs around 0,50-1,00 euros per 15 minutes, with a maximum of approximately 15€ euros per day. Prices may vary, so it is advisable to carry cash or check the updated rates on arrival.
  • Location: The car park is very well signposted at the end of the Ma-2141 road, just down the iconic curves of the route. From there, you only need to walk about 5-10 minutes to reach the cove or the access to Torrent de Pareis.
