A bit of history and the origin of its name

This picturesque coastal village owes its name to San Telmo, the patron saint of sailors and the protector against storms and dangers at sea. The devotion to San Telmo in Sant Elm is reflected in a small church dedicated to the saint, within the village.

Here, in 1229, the fleet of King James I of Aragon anchored as a starting point for the capture of Mallorca. According to tradition, the first royal mass was held on the island of Pantaleu. At this point, they had the collaboration of Alí del Pantaleu, a Muslim opposed to the governor of Mallorca, who provided valuable information to the Christians about the situation in Mallorca and the location of the enemy army.

In more recent times, Sant Elm has evolved from a small fishing village into a popular tourist destination in the summer months.

In fact, many tourists staying in the surrounding area take a day out of their holidays to visit this place. The natural beauty of the area, with its beaches and views of the island of Dragonera, has attracted tourists in search of tranquillity and outdoor activities.
