Our team of local excursion experts at click-mallorca.com have prepared this article to help you plan your visit to Cala Anguila. Below is an index of the most important things to know when visiting this beach.

Cala Anguila Information

Cala Anguila is located next to Porto Cristo, where there are other well-known beaches too such as Cala Mendia and Estany de Mas. The beach is ideal for families with children with its wide beaches of white sand and blue waters. Cala Anguila is funnel-shaped, surrounded by small rock formations, sandy bottoms and fine white sand.

Cala Anguila beach

Being protected by small cliffs on both sides, it is an ideal beach for families with children. These same cliffs protect Cala Anguila from the wind and waves, although the depth is immediately noticeable when you enter the water, so be careful!

The colour of the water in Cala Anguilla is similar to the beaches of the Caribbean, each one more beautiful than the last. This is a consequence of the effects of the rays of light on the seabed. In fact, this beach has been awarded the Blue Flag since 2011 for the quality of its water, sand and services.

Cala Anguila beach in the Summer

The beach here is quite long, around 115 metres wide and 45 metres long. Its sand is fine and white-gold in colour and at the front there is an area with sun loungers and parasols to relax, while the back is ideal for children when they want to play football or other beach games. It has the typical services of the more touristy coves, such as showers, toilets, first aid post, sun lounger and parasol rental with lockers where you can leave your belongings (it costs about 15€ per day).

Things to do at Cala Anguila

In Cala Anguila, there are several activities to enjoy its unique natural environment. You can start by simply relaxing on the beach, sunbathing and swimming in its rich blue waters. If you like to explore, you can take a walk along the coastal paths surrounding the cove and enjoy stunning panoramic views. Another option is to rent a small boat to explore the nearby waters and discover hidden corners along the coast.

If you like to snorkel there are plenty of small fish around this area, some of them will even come fearlessly close to your hand. Very close to the beach, on the left side facing the sea, there is an impressive cave, although it is only visible from the sea. It is called Cueva Genovesa (Genoese Cave) and has a course of about 2400 metres.

Also noteworthy is that on the right side of the beach you can see the semi-hidden remains of an old sandstone quarry. In fact, years ago it was common to find sea quarries along the coast of Mallorca, as stone was used as a construction material. Marés stone is one of the best known in Mallorca, and 99% is composed of remains from the seabed. Until cement began to be used at the beginning of the 20th century, mares stone was the main construction material used in Mallorca, basically thanks to the fact that it was easy to extract and manipulate and had a great capacity for conservation. There are many large buildings built with this stone in Mallorca, such as the Bellver Castle or the Palma Cathedral.

They say that sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, so we searched YouTube for a video of Cala Anguila. The truth is that it took us an effort, because many of the videos focus more on Cala Mandia or Cala Romántica, but we ended up finding a video that is perfect. It shows us what Cala Anguila beach is like on a summer day, so that you can get an idea of what you are going to find.

How to get to Cala Anguila

It is very easy to get to Cala Anguila, and it is perfectly indicated. If you come from Porto Cristo, you take the M-4014 road that goes to Porto Colom. At km 14.8 on the left side there is an exit towards Cala Mendia, which is the one that you take. Continue straight along the avenue until the end, take Passeig de Alfonso XII and go down to the car park.

As you will see, it is perfectly signposted and you can’t miss it. Keep in mind that it is a very busy beach, so it is sometimes difficult to park, but it is always possible on any of the surrounding streets.

Exploring Around Cala Anguila

Cala Anguila is located very close to Porto Cristo, where we find two of the best underground caves in Mallorca: the Cuevas dels Hams and the Cuevas del Drach, which remain open all year round. If you want to opt for a more personalized and quiet visit, especially in high season, our recommendation is to purchase the Cuevas dels Hams ticket.

Another nice thing to do around Cala Anguila is to go to Porto Cristo to take a walk through its port or visit the Sunday market. Porto Cristo, before the tourist boom, was a fishermen’s refuge, and has still kept part of its charm.

If you like to discover coves and enjoy the sea, another interesting option is to take a boat trip along the east coast, in which for two-three hours you sail near the coast and discover its landscape with the contrast of coves and cliffs.
